If you are like most of our customers, you work regularly with masonry construction materials. Although you need to cut on an exact line, some of these hard materials are not easy to cut with accuracy. You have probably worked with some or all of these:

  • Concrete – This is becoming more commonly used for decorative curbing, as well as for patios or driveways. A diamond saw blade makes a beautiful cut through concrete.
  • Cement – Any construction project will have multiple situations where cement blocks may be used, and they will need to be cut to spec.
  • Brick – Bricks come in several different lengths, from 7 5/8 inches to 11 5/8 inches, so in some situations they will need to be cut to a specific size that is non-standard.
  • Stone – Mother Nature sets no “standard” size for stones, and they can present problems when you need a precise cut. Traditional saw blades just won’t work with stone.

Your customer, or whoever contracted you to do the work, is not going to be satisfied with a cut that is “fairly accurate”; you need to be able to cut whatever material you’re using just as accurately as you would a 2x4 board. That is when you need a diamond saw blade.

To understand the value of a diamond saw blade, you need to know how they are different from a traditional blade. Most blades are produced using steel as the primary component (sometimes steel is combined with some other metals to make an alloy material). Of course, the weaker the blade, the lower the cost. And cheaper blades don’t have as much durability.

A diamond saw blade is similar in that it has steel at its core, but that’s where the similarity ends. There is also a powder metal coating, and that coating contains tiny chunks of actual diamonds. Diamonds are extremely dense and quite hard, which means they can cut through virtually any type of material, and they can do it very precisely.

If you are also thinking about the purchase of a new saw, you might consider one that offers the ability to “wet cut”, as this will give your diamond saw blade a longer useable life. Here’s the difference:

  • Dry – There are some instances when you may need to cut through a hard material such as stone, and no water is immediately available. Since the blade gets very hot due to the intense friction being generated, you will need to stop at certain times to let the blade cool down. For this reason, a dry cut will take longer. Cutting “dry” means you also need to be careful to wear a mask, because there will be a lot of dust created. Some of this dust can be unhealthy or even toxic, so you definitely don’t want to breathe it.
  • Wet – Whenever possible, a wet cut is preferred. As you are shopping for a saw, you will see some of the more expensive ones have the ability to deliver a spray of water on the blade while the cut is taking place. This means that the diamond saw blade stays cooler overall, so you don’t have to stop as often to keep the blade from overheating. It also means that the amount of dust is cut down considerably. More importantly, a wet cut preserves the blade, so you can get a lot more cuts out of it before a replacement is required.

Whatever dense material you need to cut, we have the blade that can do the job. We have been supplying saw blades to the construction industry for quite some time, and we would love to be able to help you.
